I am a Durham based art historian turned representational painter. Working in oil, I strive to represent light and texture in a way that imagines others complexly. While I enjoy portraits above all, I find subjects which interest me in many diverse and unexpected places.
Most of all, I'm drawn to moments where the light is exciting and beautiful, and where the people are likewise complex. I love color, and the subtle variations of color in lived experience that lenses inadequately capture.
The moments I enjoy creating the most are the illusions that art and oil paint specifically allow. The little lies of color and shape that at the same time feel so real. That reality is just a game of light that exists for you in every moment, and that there is so much truth outside of those boundaries.
